Dual on the Diamond

Last night was a wonderful evening for softball and we couldn't have asked for a better crowd!! Thanks to the nearly 3,000 people who came to Lagoon Park yesterday evening to watch the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Auburn Tigers go head-to-head for the "One and Only Game" this season.  It was definitely a picture perfect night full of wonderful plays from amazing athletes.    There is an album full of snapshots from last nights game in the link below, so feel free to browse through it to catch a tiny glimpse of what transpired last night.  The final score between the two teams was 6-2, with the win going to the Auburn Tigers.  If you weren't able to make it out last night we're sorry that we missed you, but hopefully you can join us for other events that are held at Lagoon Park or any of our other facilities throughout Montgomery.  Once again, thanks to all the fans who came out!! You are the ones who made the event such a success!!

Wright Brothers Park is Now Open!

On July 2, 2013 Overlook Park was officially renamed as Wright Brothers Park.  The park is located near where Orville and Wilbur Wright started the first aviation flying school in the United States in 1910.  That school is now Maxwell Air Force Base.  There is a Wright Brothers plane replica located in the park along with a new pavilion.  There will will also be a playground located in the park, which will be installed in the coming months.  Appearing and speaking at the dedication was the Great-Grand Niece of Orville and Wilbur Wright, Amanda Wright Lane.  After she spoke Mayor Todd Strange presented to her a picture of the Wright Brothers plane replica, while she presented a Huffman Prairie Flying Field picture, the location where the Wright Brothers built the airplane and taught themselves to be pilots, to Mayor Strange and the City of Montgomery.
